Pretty Dining Rooms

Although these rooms are not small small they do show how simple can be perfect for the dining room. I'm not a big fan of the table that has hardly any room for the food. I myself do not have a formal dining room, but I think a eat in kitchen can have as much style as these rooms do, just scale down to the must haves and good conversation. Do you have a formal dining room and if so do you use it everyday?

Lisa, I loooove the third pic....I think the pillows along the window seat are what draw me in. FYI-my blog is no longer at lessismorebloggy.blogspot.com; it's now at thesimplerthings.blogspot.com . I had a broken link somewhere and couldn't post for days, so I got flabbergasted and renamed the page. : )

Thanks for the inspiring pictures! I am trying to re-do my dining room so that we *do* use it everyday. It is too formal right now so it rarely gets used since it is usually me and the 3 and 6 year old at most meals. The table becomes a collecting spot for mail, school papers, etc. which looks lovely next to the antique silver and crystal from my husband's grandmother. :) I am thinking of putting the formal things away and getting more casual, everyday things that can be replaced if the kids break them.

We purposely do not have a separate dining roo. I love the togetherness and informality of an open kithen/eating area. The second pic is my favorite- the windows are so cool.

Really like all of these, Lisa, but especially the one with the banquette/nook/whatever!

Im not sure if my definition mine is considered formal because it's an aside/open to the kitchen. I like this, though, because I can talk to guests while I prepare the food. Formal dining rooms are nice to look at (or can be), but in theory they are a bit too stuffy for my lifestyle. Im not a very formal kind of guy. LOL

Growing up the DR was only used for special occasions -- those during which time you had to behave, and during which time I almost inevitably spilled red wine on the white table cloth!

While looking for our current house, we were willing to forego a formal dining room and living room. And we have neither. I like the open concept and it works well for us. (I would still love one extra room though...to keep the toys corralled!)

I do not have a formal dining room, so I do have to keep it simple. These pictures are so inspirational!
