Always try to make room for your "stuff" by the front door...saves time in the AM !!!
inspiration for smaller spaces
I know its very early, but Pottery Barn has a sneak peak of their holiday lines. I have to say, I'm loving that entry way bench and that plaid bedding! If you want to see more, just click on the title of this post!
Even if you front door dumps right into your main living area (mine sure does!) try to define the area the best you can. A small table works wonders, for a place to put your keys etc. If you cannot manage a table perhaps a small shelf added to your wall. Its always nice to know where your keys are !!!
Everything needs a place. Putting your things away is key to small living. The very first thing you should consider is open or closed storage. I tend to lean towards closed, because, well, I'm a messy person. Don't get me wrong. I love the look of open storage, I just know my limitations :). My best advice is, if its pretty and you like to look at it, open storage. Otherwise, hide that stuff !!
Yes yes, I know its not even October yet, but Pottery Barn has put up its holiday 2009 preview. They have some beautiful things and the picture of the living room above is very comfy and rustic. Click on the title of this post to take you to the Pottery Barn web site.
In small spaces, it's easy to think you are just plain out of room for anything else. If there is a spot in your house that does not serve much purpose, rethink it! Space above the bed, that blank wall when you first walk in the door. Rethink every spot in your home. Also don't feel like you have to have certain things in certain rooms. A home office can be in your bedroom if it works there for you. Decide how your life flows and design your home around YOU!
