inspiration for smaller spaces
I love when a space is not only organized but stylized too! It does not matter how good it looks if you still can't find the dog's leash! I first, figure out what I need and use and then try to make it look as good as possible. If a object is interesting (to me) then I try to leave it out. If its something I use on a daily basis, it probably sits out too. Its a highly personal thing but always remember the most important rule in small space living, less is more!
Small space is all about storage planning. The first thing I consider is do I want open or closed storage. If what I'm storing is not pretty or interesting to look at, I go with closed storage. For the most part, I opt for closed, its easier to cram stuff in when you have people coming over on short notice! I do have open storage in my office. There I find I can be a bit more creative and practical all at the same time.
I'm sure most of you have seen rate a room on the HGTV website. I have mixed emotions about it. On one hand, I love seeing how regular people decorate. There are some really talented people out there. Some of the comments are down right mean! I'm all for constructive criticism, but yikes! Here are a few rooms I thought were done very nicely. Do you have a favorite rate a room?
I love how shelving is becoming art in and of itself. Placing shelves high or low, I'm seeing lots of creative idea's. Its a great way to highlight pictures and art. The above photos are great examples of how creative you can become with shelving. There are all sorts of shelving for sale in many stores now...the possibilities are endless!
