Cubbies

Cubbies seem to be everywhere in pictures these days. They do make a lot of sense, I just don't know if I'm disciplined enough to have open shelving. No, I'm not. Love how they look tho. How about you? Are you cub worthy?

The wall cubby in the second photo is perfect for my ultra tiny kitchen! I am visuallizing as the spot for wine glasses or small kitchen gadgets and apliances. Thanks so much for the inspiration!

Yeah, I love cubbies. And kitchens without cabinets, just shelving. But I think you have to have some pretty nice looking stuff and be really organized for it not to look like a wreck. I like the idea of cubbies with nice stuff (decorative) above and cabinets below with all the messy stuff.

Guess I should have said too that I like it when people display things they actually use, not just things for decorative purposes that collect dust. . .

I think having equally sized shelves makes all of the jumble you put on them look artfully arranged.

I love how cubbies look, but there is no way I could ever have open shelving. It would drive me crazy if it wasn't perfect all the time.

I adore open shelving, but in a kitchen I find it is impossible to keep clean, if you actually cook there. I just don't have the time to wipe and dust as much as it needs it.

I don't think I could ever get bored of cubbies, in a Kitchen esp. They are the perfect spot for books and gadgets that otherwise would be banned to a life in the cupboard :) Great post!

I am not an open shelving fan for myself. However, I love looking at pictures of kitchens that use open shelving! It gives a kitchen a much more...well...open look!

I'm with the people who aren't disciplined enough to dust that often! I think they are so pretty to look at in the right house, but I know I'd curse myself if I did it in my own. :)

I think design photos w/cubbyholes almost always look nice, but in the real world, the stuff gets dusty or smeary with cooking vapors, so it's just a pain to keep clean (really clean).
I'd vastly prefer great cabinets, with or without some glass doors.

Your examples are lovely, but I'm so not cubby worthy! I would find it so hard to keep open storage looking co-ordinated and stylish, rather than like black holes! One storage trick I'm a fan of is under bed storage. I got that one from Clerys last year and I can honestly say it has changed my life - well, my bedroom clutter!
